Follow Up Interview With Kail Harbick Of Big Brother 8

I got the chance to catch up with Kail Harbick yesterday from Big Brother 8. Kail and I talked about what it is like to return to a “normal” life, her opinion of Eric and who she is hoping will win this season Big Brother. I want to thank Kail for taking the time out of her Sunday to chat with me.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: So you have been back home now for a couple of weeks and I am sure everyday is exciting and different for you. Talk to me about what it was like when you got home from the show; did it take a few days to get back to your “normal” life?
A. Kail Harbick Big Brother 8: I was fortunate to have a great support system ready when I got home. They helped me get back into the normal life but my sleep habits are still off. After you take 41 days off work it takes a bit to get back into the swing of things.
Q. Mark: I noticed you all slept in. About a week ago I broke down and bought the feeds but never saw much action. I saw a lot of sleeping.
A. Kail Harbick Big Brother 8: I’m not sure if people stayed up so late on prior Big Brother seasons. This season we had Dick in the house. Since Dick managed a bar he kept bar hours so he typically got home at 4 or 5am. So Dick stayed up late and one by one we all started staying up with him.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: So I was told by James Rhine of Big Brother 6 and 7 All-Stars that CBS suggested to all the cast that it would not be a good idea to spend too much time in online Big Brother forums. Have you ventured into the online world to see what fans are saying good and bad?
A. Kail Big Brother 8: When we come out of the house we are advised to stay off the web for 3 weeks but this just a suggestion for us. I have a very good support system so I made the decision not to go into the forums and message boards. My husband and parents are looking in on them and if they think I need to hear or see something they will let me know. That’s how I choose to come out of the house. Many fans who support me have found ways to email me and I greatly appreciate it.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: Have you been recognized out on the street since you have been back?
A. Kail Harbick Big Brother 8: : I see it more in Eugene, OR but not so much in my small town of Rainbow. When I go to Eugene I have had fans ask me for my autograph, ask to shake my hand or take pictures with me.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: What’s that like? It has to be weird to go from a “normal” life one day to having fans ask for pictures, autographs, etc.

A. Kail Harbick Big Brother 8: It is very strange and surreal. My husband and I said let’s have fun with it and really appreciate the fans and support.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: I am sure that it has to be nice to come home and eat real food and not worry about eating Big Brother slop. What is slop like? It looks like oatmeal.
A. Kail Harbick Big Brother 8: It has the consistency of oatmeal, resembles it, but tastes nothing like it. I could have survived on oatmeal. Big Brother slop was bland and chalky. We did get protein drinks and we were allowed to add salsa to our slop. Since slop eaters could also have salsa we started warming up the salsa to make salsa soup.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: Did eating slop wear on you?
A. Kail Harbick Big Brother 8: Yes, it did. I think it played a huge mental factor in my game play. The first time I was put on slop I wasn’t eating too much but the second time around I knew I needed to eat it in order to be ready to play the game properly.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: You have children correct? Did they watch the show while you were away?
A. Kail Harbick Big Brother 8: I have 3 teens it was a lot of fun for my kids. My kids were glued to web and TV and I don’t think anything got done while I was gone. They had viewing parties at the restaurant.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: Last time we spoke you said you had become very close to Jen.
A. Kail Big Brother 8: Jen and I were very close and it was sad for me to see her go and I am disappointed it didn’t come through as much on air. We shared a bed and spent many nights talking. Jen is a very loyal friend. If Jen likes you she will be very loyal to you. You could even mess up a couple of times and she would still be there for you. She is very intelligent and played it down in the house.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: Let’s talk about someone you weren’t so fond of, Evel Dick.
A. Kail Big Brother 8: I definitely do not admire that kind of verbal action from anyone inside or outside the house. I cannot put approval on that kind of language and actions on anyone.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: What did you initially think of the twist in which three of the houseguest’s knew three other houseguests?
A. Kail Big Brother 8: When Zach, Mike, Nick, Jameka, Jen, Eric, Amber and I found out we immediately assumed those six would create a six person alliance and start picking us off. Since I was the first HOH I had everyone coming into my room talking about this possible six person alliance. We started to see Dustin and Joe spending time talking together and Dick and Danielle off in the corner chatting, I assumed I needed to be in an alliance which is how the four of us got together.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: Did you watch the episodes you appeared on yet?
A. Kail Big Brother 8: I am currently watching episode 11 and I think I appeared on the show up to episode 15. My goal is to watch them all before the finale. It is hard for me to watch them. I lived it once and I don’t want to live it again. It’s very difficult in all aspects. Such as seeing what people said about you, how you pronounced certain words and seeing yourself in the diary room without make up.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: When you and I talked shortly after your eviction you said “I don’t want to see Dustin, Amber, or Evel win. It would be great if Eric, Daniele or Jameka win”. Now that Danielle and Jameka are the only two out of the 3 you had hoped to see him, who do you think will be the finals two and who do you hope to see win?
A. Kail Big Brother 8: I would like to Zach win. Unfortunately, the odds are very low but I would like to see him win. My opinion of Eric has changed after coming out of the house.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: It has, how so and for better or worse?
A. Kail Big Brother 8: I don’t think I would have liked to see Eric win, if I said that I would like to retract it. My opinion for Eric changed for the worse. As Eric walked out the door when he was evicted, Danielle said “say hello to Jen” Eric replied, “Hopefully she has already been eaten by the sharks”.
There was no reason to make that comment. Jen had Eric’s back and really liked Eric. Even though I have a different opinion of Eric he did do a great job as America’s player and was the only one who could have pulled it off. I do think it was a disadvantage for him.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: You said you’re pulling for Zach to win. Do you think he made the right decision last week as HOH?
A. Kail Big Brother 8: I don’t know but Zach is doing great a job since he has basically been playing the game on his own. He only had minutes to make the decision on who to put on the block last week. I think he made a great decision this week by putting up Dick and Danielle.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: Have you spoken with any of the other houseguests that are not currently sequestered?
A. Kail Big Brother: I have talked to with Carol and developed a good friendship with her. I have also talked with Jens family. I have communicated back and forth a great deal with Jens mom.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: I know your no an Eric fan but what do you think of the on air romances? Looks like we had two this season.
A. Kail Big Brother 8: I don’t know. With Eric and Jess I think it is very legit. They are both very cute. Nick and Danielle didn’t have to much time in the house together. I am just like the viewers and watching each week to see what happens.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: I don’t want to dig up dirt or talk poorly of houseguests but did you see Amber’s racial comments and/or her hopes to be on Americas Next Top Model? She certainly was a character this season.
A. Kail Big Brother 8: I had no idea she had made those comments until I was evicted and was asked about it during an interview. I know Amber is going to be completely surprised about all the commotion that will come about it.
I don’t know if CBS will give her a heads up about it. I am sure she forgot about the cameras at the time. As a matter of fact I think Amber forgot about the cameras many times. If you recall the Wednesday night before I was evicted Amber really dug into Eric for telling Dick some personal information. Amber didn’t want anyone to know how she had lied to her boyfriend. It didn’t make sense since millions of viewers listened to her tell Eric the same story that Eric told Dick.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: What’s next for Kail? Will you stick with life as usual in Oregon or will you pursue other options in TV or print?
A. Kail Big Brother 8: I am very realistic about what the show may or may not bring. On the other hand I am very open and if this opened doors locally in Eugene, Oregon that would be great. But I am not so stuck in Oregon and would try something here or outside the area if something comes up. If nothing comes of this I have a complete and happy life where I am and with what I am doing.
Q. Mark Realitywanted.com: Do you watch other reality shows? If so what are your favorites.
A. Kail Big Brother 8: As you know I applied to Big brother 5, 6, and 8. So you know I watch Big Brother each season. I also watch American Idol and used to watch Survivor.
