Biggest Loser 4 - Episode #4: “Contestants ‘Black’ and ‘Blue’”
Author's web site:
‘Black and Blue’ from the bruises felt after learning the Red Team won complete immunity from elimination at the weigh-in this week after winning the challenge (I’ll get to that in a moment). The added sting came from the fact Red lost a mere nine pounds this week, compared to Black’s 50 and Blue’s 32. Bob Harper said “it sucks” since HIS team ended up in line for the elimination chopping block.
The challenge started with a temptation for the trainers. If they ate the right, yummy, home-made, frosted cupcake, it could shave 15 seconds off the time for the upcoming challenge for their team. Even though Bob admitted the tiny, round confections are his weakness, all the trainers declined sending the message their teams can sweat it out the old-fashioned way, “food is not a reward.”
This week’s challenge started as a bidding war between the three teams. Each threw out a time they felt they could run their obese bodies down a steep hill, grab their team flag and hike it back up to the starting point. Members of the Blue Team could not get it together and come to a decision on what they’d like to do - run it, bid it down, what-have-you. Lack of decision skills became sort of a theme for Blue this week (flash forward to elimination chat where the team suggested if it comes to a tie on who’s to go home, they’ll just let the other teams decide. To which, Bob simply said “Hell no!” I love him).
None of the teams knew what the prize for winning the challenge would be, but Host Alison Sweeney hinted it would be big come weigh-in time. Had the teams known the reward would be team immunity from elimination, maybe Blue would have played a stronger hand. Red’s strategy was to get the bid down to an impossible time, then challenge one of the team’s to do it. That ended up being Black, at five minutes and 25 seconds. They started out strong, with Jillian leading the pack, holding her team members’ hands, encouraging them all the way. Then, Hollie took a nose dive into the dirt, got a nasty raspberry on her shin (evident at the weigh-in.) Black came close, but couldn’t pull it off.
Then, surprised, Red’s strategy kind of backfired. Black failing was not enough for Red to win. They too had to try to grab their flag in the time allotted to win that coveted, yet undisclosed reward! And that they did. Last chance workouts, Jillian was a beast … pushing Isabeau to the max, making her believe in herself by pumping the treadmill up to 12 miles per hour. Isabeau did it, and her efforts showed on the scales with an eight pound loss this week. Jillian said, “that’s what running 12 miles an hour will do.” Kind of inspired me to at least get my butt off the bed. LOL
I mentioned Red Team’s numbers were nothing amazing on the scales this week. In the real world, something is better than nothing, but when the other two teams are pulling double digits, and they’re pulling one and two pounds, it’s understandable why the other two teams were “pissed” Red had complete immunity from elimination. And Amy, let’s talk about her once again. I’m a bit upset with Amy. She lost ONE pound this week and said, and I quote, “if this is the best I can do here, then it makes me believe I can do it at home (as if she’d rather be there than at the BL Campus).” Then go sweetpea. You’ve been nothing but a complaining nightmare since day one. I could name at least a dozen people right now who would have LOVED the chance to be in your hardly broken-in tennis shoes, who would have taken advantage of everything those trainers have offered you. Get it together.
Okay. Bitter. Anyway, Blue goes to elimination, Patty gets three votes, goes home and loses another 36 pounds to date. She started BL4 at 280 and as of the taping, was down to 219 pounds. Way to go Patty! Things are a changin’ at the Biggest Loser Campus. The remaining contestants joined the Blue Team in the elimination room to find out next week, things are a changin’ at the Biggest Loser Campus. The dorm will be shut down (I’m writing this with an air of suspense and drama, so please read as such), the kitchen will be on lock-down … and the gym will be non-existent … “TO BE CONTINUED!” (try to relax and don’t fall off the edge of your seat, till next week!)
**CAUTION***
THE FOLLOWING IS A POSSIBLE SPOILER FROM MY EXCITING, SUSPENSE FILLED TEASER FROM ABOVE:
NEXT WEEK:
SURPRISE GETAWAY – This week Alison surprises the three teams with news of an exotic getaway, but they quickly discover their “vacation” will be more work than play.
The contestants are faced with temptations they never had to face back on campus, and later square off in a wild challenge unlike any they’ve faced before. Then back on the “Biggest Loser” campus, contestants who lose the weigh-in try to forge alliances before making the difficult decision of who to send home.
