Interview with Kate and Pat of the Amazing Race 12
Author's web site:

I caught up with Kate and Pat, the second team eliminated from The Amazing Race 12. I loved talking with them both and I had to ask Kate about her comment regarding God not caring who wins the Amazing Race. I immediately assumed they had both watched Big Brother 8 and like many of us assumed God has better things to do than watch TV and map out who will win.
Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: What initially got you both interested in being on the show, did you watch prior seasons?
A. Kate, The Amazing Race 12: We have watched every season of The Amazing Race.
A. Pat, The Amazing Race 12: We have always talked about doing The Amazing Race. Last February we did an interview with a local paper, the reporter asked what was next for the two of us so we told him we wanted to be on The Amazing Race and here we are.
Q. Mark: Did you guys have a favorite past team or a team you rooted for from a prior season?
A: Kate, The Amazing Race 12: We really liked Rob and Amber since they supported one another.
A. Pat, The Amazing Race 12: We also really liked Mary and David. They were so much fun to watch and we loved the fact it was the first time they had the chance to get out of Kentucky and see the world.
Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: I have often wondered how much rest you actually get on The Amazing Race. In last nights episode Phil commented that after a mandatory rest period you all were leaving Ireland for Amsterdam. How much time did you really have to rest and did you ever really get any sleep?
A: Kate, The Amazing Race 12: Normally when you place your feet on the pad at the final pit stop you have 12 hours until you start the race again.
A. Pat, The Amazing Race 12: Its not like you rush right to bed after the pit stop. Many teams want to talk with one another and find out how things are going. You don’t get much sleep since you’re so excited to start the next day. We would also hear the other teams in the hotel who departed before us getting ready so it makes it hard to rest.
Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: Pat you said something to the effect last night about God not caring if you win or lose the race. Why did you say that? Was your response to all of the praying going on by Amber and Jameka on Big Brother 8?
A: Kate, The Amazing Race 12: I was the one who said that. I said something like, “God doesn’t care who wins The Amazing Race”. I said it in reaction to things like football teams praying to God for a win. What if both teams are praying to God for a win? That kind of Christianity is not our kind of Christianity and I wanted to voice it. Every time we hear about Jameka from Big Brother 8 we cringe.
A. Pat, The Amazing Race 12: Jameka thought that the entire Big Brother game and outcome was already predetermined by God. I think God was busy with other things and didn’t care too much about Big Brother. We both get bothered when we watch other shows like this. We are not knocking their beliefs but many people are critical and suspicious of Christianity and organized religions in general and activities like the ones we mentioned above just deepen their suspicions. We did pray before and after each leg of the race when the cameras were not around.
Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: Being that your both not what we might call mainstream ministers were you shocked by Kynt and Vyxsin appearance since many would say there not mainstream?
A. Pat, The Amazing Race 12: We think Kynt and Vxysin were great.
A. Kate, The Amazing Race 12: We did look at them during the auditions and wondered what they would be like. Kynt and Vxysin have carefully chosen who they are and so did we. I’m not saying we chose to be gay, we chose our religion and one another.
Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: Let’s talk about Ron and Christina. I believe you two commented on how poorly Ron was treating Christina during the race.
A. Pat, The Amazing Race 12: We found Ron to be a bit too abrasive with Christina. During the hunt for the bikes, I had a moment where I thought if he wants to be that way and it slows them down that was OK with me. However, I did not like how he was treating her.
Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: As viewers we miss much of the action since several days of footage are edited into one hour per week. Can you tell me what single event may have placed you back of the pack and may have lead to your elimination?
A. Kate, The Amazing Race 12: We were in that bike parking lot for 2 ½ hours, we were pathetic.
A. Pat, The Amazing Race 12: So there was a little guy in a booth in the bike parking lot who signaled us to go look upstairs for our bike. Our plan was to work our way from the bottom of the garage to the top. We thought he wanted to help us, but after going all the way to the top our bike ended up being downstairs. If we would have found our bike at the bottom as we had planned we still would have been in the back but in a better position.
Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: What did you walk away with after this experience and what do you want to tell fans of the show?
A. Pat, The Amazing Race 12: If you get chance to do this show, do it. It was life changing. We had our doubts at first but I am glad we did it, I am a different person.
A. Kate, The Amazing Race 12: I agree with Pat, if you can go on the show you should. You can change your life, lose weight, and keep your relationship strong.
