Biggest Loser 4 - Episode #9, “Gone Amy, Gone! Amy’s Gone!”
Author's web site:
A tearful Amy walking out of the elimination room, off the Biggest Loser Campus for good, puts that Violent Femmes tune in my head for some reason. Wipe your tears friends, this week’s recap is a bit late, but some housing issues prevented me from sending you my blissful blog immediately after the show. Now let’s get to it. Amy.
Amy, the girl I loved to hate in the beginning. The Red Team whiner without care of circumstance she had all the tools in front of her to change her life, for the better, for good. Then, several weeks ago, that all changed. Amy walked away from her combative and non-helpful relationship with Red Team Trainer Kim Lyons and chose Black Team Trainer Jillian Michaels as the one to get her in shape. And it worked. Pushing hard for her newfound team on challenges, working out like a mad woman in the gym to prove herself! She gained my respect and became a favorite.
But, it wasn’t enough to save her this week from elimination, and a few harsh words from her once duo-teammate Kae. The episode opens with Amy finally showing complete allegiance to the Black Team and Jillian, by wearing a black shirt and handing her old red one to Kim. This made possible since Host Alison Sweeney informed the players after last week’s elimination, no more teams. Contestants are now competing as individuals. Kim refused Amy’s red shirt, said it was a “slap in the face,” a “disappointment” and that she would “regret” her decision to make the switch. Jillian, of course, was ecstatic!
Nine remaining players in week nine. Each tempted this week with the Donut Challenge. A five-thousand dollar chip, placed in one of the yummy, cream filled pastries turned out to be the coveted prize. And I DO mean coveted (get it, hidden in the donuts?) Eligibility to play required each contestant to eat a donut, each round it took to finally find the chip. In true form, the first round, Kae refused. Said it wasn’t worth it. Actually, she’s quite smart. It’s not only discipline that drives her. She is the smallest contestant in the group and knows numbers at the scale will eventually wane the closer she gets to goal. Every calorie counts.
Digging through piles of pastry and frosting turned up nothing in the first minute round, so onto another donut, more calories … and round two. This time, Julie and Nicole joined Kae on the bench. The rest of the players squished donuts with their toes and clawed through the morning desert delights to no avail. Round Three. This time, no time limit and the challenge ends when someone finds the chip. That was Bill. The same Bill who won last week’s challenge and a brand-spankin’ new Ford Escape Hybrid SUV. The New York twin said the money is going into a college fund for his kids! Way to go Dad!
Here’s the greatest part! Some of these people, who could barely walk up a flight of stairs when picked to compete on this reality show, actually completed a triathlon. That is 24 kilometers people of continuous exercise! Twenty kilometers of biking, three kilometers of running and one kilometer swimming. The reward: a 24 hour trip home. All of the contestants busted ass on this challenge. It was commendable of all suffice to say. But, Hollie used her skill as a swim coach in the last leg to pull away from the pack and win the prize. She also won immunity at the next weigh-in.
Alison then gave Hollie the tough decision of picking another person, to enjoy the same reward. Hollie struggled with her decision and in a self-professed strategic move, picked Julie to share in the spoils of her victory! Hollie found out her slimming waist-line and healthier food choices have inspired her friends back home. Julie found out her husband has lost 28 pounds on his own, while she’s been away and now her son can wrap his arms all the way around her during hugs. Sweet.
A bit of my issues with Amy in the beginning came to the surface again, as she tears up and complains how SHE wanted to be picked to go home and see her family. Again, suck it up Aims, you’re there to lose weight, thousands of people would have loved to be in your place! On to the scales. Remember Hollie and Julie now have immunity, but only if they have not gained any weight on their visit home. It was a nail-biter for both formerly Black shirt ladies. Neither gained or lost a pound. Whew!
Neil lost the most weight at 10 pounds. He started the show at 421 and is now at 311. Bill hit a milestone, losing eight pounds, putting him at a total of 100 pounds lost to date (334 - 234). Nicole dropped seven pounds (279 - 222 to date), Isabeau five (298 - 241 to date) and Kae four (225 - 159 to date). Amy lost three pounds (297 - 242 to date) and Bryan lost two (346 - 276 to date), thus putting the once Red teammates below the yellow line and up for elimination.
The voting was split – half the group voted for Bryan, half for Amy. Isabeau was on the fence about her vote from the get-go, which unfortunately makes it look like HER vote was the DECIDING vote. Could be a problem for her if she’s on the elimination chopping block in the near future, since her vote for Amy was not unified with her Black shirt teammates and seems unloyal. Amy made it a point before leaving to thank Julie and Hollie for their loyalty in voting for Bryan, not her.
The 28-year-old mother of two said she would be back as a “smokin’ hot, bikini mama!” And this first grade teacher from Rochester, New York is on her way to making good on that promise! Girlfriend has lost 100 pounds to date and looks incredible! Go Amy, Go! (Get it? The tie-in to Gone, Amy Gone! Again, a two-hour show, these long blogs make me loopy!)
Next week:
MEMORABLE MAKEOVERS – As a reward for their hard work so far, the players are surprised with a day of star treatment and makeovers on the set of NBC’s popular daytime drama “Days of our Lives.” Behind closed doors, family and friends wait to surprise their beloved losers who they haven’t seen in over three months.
