Biggest Loser 4 - Episode #7, “Dave’s Done and Doin’ It at Home!”

images.jpgSan Francisco rockin’ and rollin’ tonight about half-an-hour prior to tonight’s Biggest Loser episode. A magnitude 5.6 quake shook the Bay Area. So, in true newscast style, the first 15 minutes of the show, pre-empted with earthquake coverage. Once I shook off the jolt, calmed the dog, grabbed an iced tea and hunkered down for the aftershocks, the show was back in progress. I missed the fallout from Neil’s own shake-up last week, by throwing the weigh-in and gaining 17 pounds. Clearly, what I caught, both the Blue and Black teams were still reeling from emotions of his actions.

Red Team Trainer Kim Lyons felt the two left on her team, Bryan and David (at least the one’s she’s still training. Amy chose Jillian as her new trainer last week) were unaffected by the fiasco and focused on getting fit for this week’s weigh-in. The Black Team, however, felt targeted for elimination, but Jillian wouldn’t let their worry get the best of them. She wanted them to focus on their health and the real reason for being at the Biggest Loser Campus so, “work out, eat right, shut up and listen to me.” Rock on Jillie! I love her!

This week’s challenge had each team – three trios and one duo – sit on a teeter-totter of sorts above the water, with equal weight of their team on the other side. Whoever balanced the longest and stayed from falling into the water, won the reward: a mystery prize in a black box Host Alison Sweeney promised held the power to possibly “change the game.” Blue Neil and Black Isabeau fell first, followed by Black Hollie, Blue Kae and Red David. Red Amy encouraged her teammates, Black Bill and Julie to hold on but it wasn’t enough … leaving Blue Nicole, Ryan and Red Bryan champions.

The reward box held a card stating the winners would each get an individual vote at the next elimination, provided their team stayed above the yellow line at the scales. If not, all bets were off and the power votes would be null and void. We took a nice trip up and down emotional lane for former U.S. Army Private Kae. Since I missed the beginning, I failed to get the gist of the complete mess going on in her head, but Bob seemed to get her centered again with HIS Chi and wonderful way of centering his team, getting them to focus on their health and ultimate goal of weight loss.

What was up with the shots of the birds? Was I the only one that noticed? First, two little swallows (or sparrows, I’m a journalist, not an ornithologist - THAT would be my MAN!) perched on a rail … then a humming bird suckling on a flower? Come on now. Are we getting artsy mid-way through the competition or is production just going soft on us? Maybe it was a segue to the “nature” of the game - competition – just before Amy confessed to Jillian about her also throwing last week’s weigh-in upon Neil’s “pressure.” (even I am stretching there, sorry!) Amy lost ZERO pounds and here I am thinking poor girl, she gave it her all, switched trainers, busted ass in last week’s challenge, but girlfriend was porkin’ out behind the scenes! Unacceptable! J

She’s still in my good books though from her efforts in THIS week’s challenge to keep her team from teetering off into the watery depths! Didn’t work, but at least she tried right? Our product placement this week involved Jillian with her milk moustache and Kim showing David how “easy, breezy” it is to steam salmon with the NEW, Ziploc STEAMERS. You gotta love pimping out the products! Jillian’s wouldn’t have been so bad had a “Got Milk” commercial not followed that particular segment. Even so, advertising dollars have helped this show, ultimately helping these contestants lose 757 pounds on the BL Campus to date. They’ve been there almost two months. That’s a heck of a lot of poundage people (and advertising dollars - LOL)!

Neil broke another record at the scales this week, losing the most weight of any contestant in one week – 33 pounds. That’s because Bob worked him, a bit from anger, but mostly wanting him to get back to the focus of health, not the game. His one and only teammate, Isabeau lost zero pounds and said she felt okay to have Neil carry her, since he tried to dump her last week. Total percentage lost – 5.26%. Amy (-11), Bill (-10) and Julie (-6) came in 2nd with 3.76% lost. Bill has lost a total of 83 pounds to date. Ryan (-13), Nicole (-9) and Bryan (-8) stayed above the yellow line at 3.48% sending Kae (-6), Hollie (-5) and David (-3) to elimination and allowing them to keep their reward of three individual votes.

I was a bit impressed with the producing and editing this week since a lot of focus was on Kae and how others say she’s a machine. Bob had a moment with her and said she’s been breaking records on the BL Campus, these contestants are afraid of this “little girl.” Which, of course, made me think girlfriend’s neck was on the chopping block! I admit it, I was wrong!

Neil apologized at the weigh-in for his shenanigans last week and said he realized the best strategic move in the game was “beating the scale each week” … then cast his and Isabeau’s vote for David. Bill spoke for Amy and Julie when he too removed his entrée server to reveal Dave as their choice for elimination.

Bryan’s individual vote was for Kae, but Nicole sealed David’s fate with her choice … sending David home. Tears streamed down Dave’s face as the 31-year-old cowboy and rancher from Tennessee said, “I’ll make you all proud, next time you see me, I’ll be a handsome devil with a smokin’ gun.” Get your minds out of the gutter ya’ll! Dave has lost an amazing 105 pounds to date from 368 to 263 pounds.

Next Week:

“BIGGEST LOSERS” GO GREEN – The red, blue and black teams all go “green” for the week, participating in recycling and learning how to implement new environmentally friendly habits in their lives. They also learn to exercise without the aid of electricity, taking their workouts to a whole new level. This week’s challenge is all about recycling, and the winners get something really environmentally friendly – Ford Escape hybrids!
