Interview With Ultimate Fighter Contestant Dorian Price

icfc.jpgI had a chance to sit down and talk to The Ultimate Fighter contestant Dorian Price. Dorian is a Mixed Martial Artist with an 8 – 2 record hailing from Baltimore, MD .and training in Cincinnati OH. Dorian was the second fighter to be eliminated on this season of Spike TV’s The Ultimate Fighter. When I started talking to Dorian I was surprised to find out that he was in the North East now training with Matt Serra.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: What originally got you involved in MMA?

A. Dorian Price, The Ultimate Fighter I had been doing Tia boxing for a while in college. After college I want to Ohio to get a Masters Degree at Ohio State, but there were no Tai boxing gyms in Columbus.. I was about to hang up my fighting hat when I ran into two of my heroes Marc Coleman and Kevin Randleman

Q. Mark – How did you run into Marc Coleman and Kevin?

A. Dorian Price, The Ultimate Fighter: I was driving down the street one day and saw a gym that I wanted to try out. Marc Coleman was in the parking lot so I talked to him and told him I was a fan of his. Marc asked me if I had any grappling experience, I told him I didn’t have much. He was so cool; he gave me his cell phone and asked me to come down to the gym and train.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: So it sounds like simply driving down the street can change the course of your life. Without that drive you may not have met Marc and/or made it on TUF. So why did you apply for The Ultimate Fighter?

A. Dorian Price, The Ultimate Fighter: It was more my managers idea. They were having a 170lb division and he felt it would be a great opportunity for me.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: What was it like to be on Team Hughes with his military approach to training?

A. Dorian Price, The Ultimate Fighter: It was great and I loved it, I thrive in that environment. Before I met my current managers, Mark Coleman, and Kevin Randleman I wasn’t getting the hardcore training I needed. Being with Matt and his training was perfect for me. If we stepped up a notch the coaches stepped up training a notch, it was great.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: How did the handing out of bibles go over with the rest of the team?

A. Dorian Price, The Ultimate Fighter: I would be lying if I said I would speak for everyone. But Mac Danzig didn’t think it was appropriate to force religion upon other people. They didn’t over or under emphasis it on TV. Like when Matt told Mac he didn’t need to read it if he didn’t want to. It didn’t bother me one bit, I would have read a snickers wrappers if I had to, since we didn’t have anything to watch or read.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: So you were there six days? How helpful was the training for your fight since you only had six days to train?

A. Dorian Price The Ultimate Fighter: I had 6 days of training and I wish I had more time to work on my ground game while I was there. At the same time it’s no excuse I had to fight whether I was the first or last. I don’t think coach had enough time to know how much I needed help with grappling.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: You had some sort of premonition that you were going to be picked by Team Serra to fight. How did this come about?

A. Dorian Price, The Ultimate Fighter: To be honest I sand bagged it during training. I wanted to fight at first I did not want to be in the house several weeks waiting to fight.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: What do you think of Joey and how he wanted to leave? It appears we haven’t seen the end of this, based upon the commercial for next week. Does this piss some of you guys off? We have seen this before on TUF and I wonder if some guys just aren’t ready to leave their chicks behind.

A. Dorian Price, The Ultimate Fighter: It didn’t really bug me. From what I hear of past seasons our 16 guys were good people and we all didn’t want to have beef and drama. We wanted our drama in the cage and we all had a let’s support one another mentality. Our team knew what it was like to be the first on deck. I don’t think anyone got pissed about him wanting to leave. It pissed me off when his team crossed him off the list on the wall. All in all we got along.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: Talk to me about the fight. You landed a great knee and then you were taken to the floor. After looking at the fight what might you have changed?

A. Dorian Price, The Ultimate Fighter: It’s hard for me to say anything since I don’t want to take anything away from what Matt did and I hate to make excuses, it is what it is. We knew if Matt did stand up with me it could have been different, but I also knew if it went to the ground I would be in trouble. If I could do one thing over I would not have been as aggressive. Too much nerves and anxiety. I over committed. I should have been more the counter fighter. Hindsight is 20/20.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: For viewers like me who have never fought in the ring what happens when you are punched in the face and finally roll and show your back. It’s almost like we could see it coming.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: What about myspace if anyone wants to throw a shout out to you?

A. Dorian Price, The Ultimate Fighter: Sure man its
