Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: What originally got you involved in MMA?

A. John Kolosci, The Ultimate Fighter: When I was 27 I was still getting into a lot of street fights and I wanted a way to channel that negative energy into something else. I felt too intelligent for street fights so I sought out something to do after work. I got into Ju Jitsu, started meeting MMA guys, started training with them, and then started fighting at local venues.

Q. Mark – What got you interested in being on The Ultimate Fighter?

A. John Kolosci, The Ultimate Fighter: I did watch some prior shows but I never followed an entire season. It was luck that I landed on the show since I did most of the leg work on my own. Many guys have managers who send them into auditions, I ran across a posting on an MMA website and decided to apply.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: What about Mac and his deal with bugs and animals?

A. John Kolosci, The Ultimate Fighter: I don’t judge people for anything really, if that’s what makes Mac happy so be it. I didn’t know he was like that until I saw the shows that have aired so far this season. Mac and I didn’t have much interaction within the house but we get along great now and email one another from time to time.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: What did you think of the chat Ritchie and Matt had with Hughes? Matt didn’t seem like he wanted to be there and said this isn’t High School.

A. John Kolosci, The Ultimate Fighter: I thought it played into the personality of Matt Hughes. No one ever got that friendly feeling from him even during the season. Even his team started talking poorly of him close to the end of the series. All of us on Matt Serra’s team had no idea that Matt talked down to his fighters after a loss.

The thing that seemed funny was the fact Hughes commented that this isn’t high school. He was right in the sense that it is not high school, adults talk to one another but Matt didn’t want to talk. The others coaches that worked with Hughes looked like they wanted to talk with Ritchie and Matt but Matt was always slumped in his chair waiting for the talk to end.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: What do you think of Mac personally? He did comment prior to the fight that you had never fought anyone like him.

A. John Kolosci, The Ultimate Fighter: Even if I don’t agree with it Mac, he has the right to be cocky. He is very well rounded, has had a ton of fights, fought in Pride, and is more well rounded than I am today. He was one of the best fighters in the house which is why I wanted to fight him.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: After the fight Mac said you looked nervous and your movements were very telegraphed. Can you talk with me about the fight and what went wrong on your end?

A. John Kolosci, The Ultimate Fighter: It comes down to this, it is what it is. When I fought Billy earlier in the season I had butterflies before the fight, but I felt confident I would win. When I fought Mac I was nervous, it may have been what was at stake that caused me to be nervous and/or who I was about to fight.

I should have stuck to the game plan. I should have thrown elbows, re shot, or backed up away from Mac. I was just stuck on Mac and kept trying to pull his legs down even though it didn’t work.

I have had 12 fights and I remember everything that went on, I could hear my corner, and listen to their instructions. I wasn’t relaxed and I wasn’t focused, I don’t even remember what went on and I could not hear Serra.

Q. Mark RealityWanted.com: What’s next for you?

A. John Kolosci, The Ultimate Fighter: I don’t think I ever knew prior to the show what was needed to fight in the UFC. I have now taken on a whole new thought on training. I have new coaches that are pushing me to my limit everyday. My work ethic is stronger compared to what it was prior to the show. You will see me fight on Dec 8th.
